Hydroponic Grower Assistant
We farm more than 2,500 acres of the rich soils of the Annapolis Valley. Our primary crops grown for domestic and export markets include potatoes, onions, high bush blueberries, grape tomatoes, blackberries, strawberries, with grains as rotational crops. We pack and market these and other fruits and vegetables such as squash and carrots to the Atlantic Provinces, North Eastern USA, and Europe. Our quality control and research programs explore new crops, new products and improved processes as part of our commitment to continual improvement, quality, and safe food choices for our customers. What We are Growing Hydroponically:
As innovators we are growing 15 acres of strawberries plus 1 acre of raspberries. We are proud of our technology and innovations, we always looking for the best varieties in flavour and good yield.
POSITION TITLE: Hydroponic Assistant Grower (HAG)
POSITION STATUS: Seasonal (May 1– November 15) with option to extend.
HAG reports to the Hydroponic Manager (HM) and the main duties include day-to-day involvement in the growing of plants and implementation of reliable growing processes including irrigation, lighting, temperature, growing media, fertilization, nutrition, and monitoring the overall health of plants. Also helping with daily tasks like supervising planting or harvesting
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Duties of this job would include, but are not limited to:
- Determine and monitor nutrient and watering/moisture requirements.
- Control and monitor environmental conditions by regulating humidity, ventilation, and temperature utilizing Priva climate control software per specifications given.
- Communicates tunnel or plant issues to HM immediately.
- Responsible for troubleshooting crop issues and diagnosis of unknown health or damage problems under direction of HM.
- Maintain records of crop activities and observations including growth records.
- Maintains and follows set routines established for Assistant Growers.
- Follow specifications for crop under the direction of HM.
- Follow growing schedules by determining schedules with HM.
- Help to troubleshoot greenhouse mechanical/environmental control systems.
- Aid in training of other personnel when needed.
- Work well and effectively with fellow co-workers.
- Maintain confidentiality of information that is identified as confidential.
- Work with management to prioritize business and information needs.
- Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
- Any other duties assigned by management, as applicable.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or Agriculture or related field; completed or in progress.
- with 1-2 years of experience, preferably Hydroponic.
